NATIONAL POLICE ON EDUCATION 1986
National
policy on Education-1986 is the plan of action chosen by the Government of
India on educational matters in the country. A Programmed of action (POA) was
also chalked out for the Implementation of the National Policy on Education.
Salient Features of the NPE1986
1) Education
according to constitutional principles
The education policy of 1986 was framed on the basic
of the ideals and values of democracy , secularism and socialism contained in
our constitution.
2) National
system of education
The NEP proposes a national system of education
based on a national curricula’s frame work.
3) Equalization
of educational opportunity
To promote equality it will be necessary to provide
equal opportunity to all not only in
access, but also in the conditions for success.
4) Common
educational structure
The policy envisages a
common educational structure in the pattern of
10 + 2 + 3.
5) Minimum
levels of learning
Minimum levels of
learning will be laid down for each stage of education.
6) Promotion
of language
Link language will be
promoted.
7) Investment
for education
NPE-1986 accepts 6%
investment of national income for education formulated by the policy for
achieving the largets .
8) Operation
black board
The policy stipulated a programmed of action called
operation blackboard to ensure minimum essentials facilities in primary school.
9) Delinking
degrees from jobs
The NPE emphasizes for delinking degrees from jobs
in selected areas.

Navodaya schools
Navodaya vidyalayas meant for providing quality
education for all deserving and gifted children.
11)
Open and distance education
The policy demands for flexible system of higher
education in the form of open and distance education for meeting the educational
needs of adults, dropouts and employees.
12)
Evaluation
It calls for continuous and comprehensive evaluation
that incorporates both scholastic and non- scholastic aspects of
education.
13)
Physical education
Sports and physical education should be an integral
part of learning process, and should be included in the evaluation of
performance.
